Last week during math, we finished Chapter 8: Division. During this unit the students used related multiplication facts to divide. They also practiced dividing 2-digit numbers with and without remainders. This was the students first exposure to long division and something that we will continue to practice throughout the year.
This is the type of problem the children practiced solving. |
For this activity, the class worked with a partner to solve the problem using as many different strategies as they could. One strategy was to use manipulatives and create equal groups. |
Another strategy was to draw a picture. |
Some groups used long division to solve the problem. |
Repeated subtraction was one other strategy shared by a classmate. |
We discussed that there are often many ways to solve a math problem.
Many students shared that knowing multiplication facts makes division easier, so please continue to encourage fact practice at home.
